Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 June 2026
These Terms govern your use of Archaions, a web service that classifies nucleotide sequencing data (16S rRNA and ITS) and reports taxonomic abundance. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Who we are

Archaions ("Archaions", "we", "us") is operated by an individual sole proprietor. You can reach us at [email protected]. The service is provided at archaions.com.

2. The service

Archaions accepts nucleotide sequence data that you upload or paste and returns computational taxonomic classifications and abundance estimates. Single-sequence classification is offered free of charge (subject to rate limits). Classification of uploaded files and multi-sample batches consumes prepaid credits, as described below.

The service is a research and informational tool. It produces statistical estimates, not definitive identifications.

3. Accounts

To classify files or batches you must create an account using a valid email address or a supported third-party sign-in (such as Google). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and promptly update it if it changes. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account.

4. Credits, pricing, and payment

5. Refunds

Because classification consumes computational resources at the time of use, credits that have already been spent on completed jobs are generally non-refundable. Requests regarding unused credits or billing issues are handled on a case-by-case basis at our reasonable discretion. Contact [email protected] with any concern and we will try to resolve it fairly.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

7. Your data and results

You retain ownership of the sequence data you submit and the classification results you receive. You grant us a limited license to process your data solely to operate and provide the service. Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Scientific disclaimer

Archaions provides computational estimates produced by statistical models and reference databases. Results depend on input quality, reference completeness, and algorithmic assumptions, and may contain errors or omissions. Results are provided for research and informational purposes only and must not be used as the sole basis for clinical, diagnostic, regulatory, forensic, or other consequential decisions. You are responsible for independently validating results before relying on them.

9. Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We may modify or discontinue features at any time.

10. Warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Archaions and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising from or related to your use of the service. To the extent we are found liable, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Archaions and its operator from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the service or violation of these Terms.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by notice within the service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence provide otherwise.
